New Curriculum Proposal

A major Government report has called for urgent reforms to protect Primary Schools struggling to cope with an overloaded curriculum. It proposes six new areas of learning for schools to focus on: Understanding English, Communication and Languages; Mathematical understanding; Scientific and technological understanding; Human, Social and environmental understanding; understanding Physical Health and well-being; understanding the Arts and Design.

Topic based teaching covers the learning objectives in a consolidated joined up way which is more relevant to the way children learn, rather than segregated by subject content.

Some children can learn adequately from just listening, others need greater visual stimulus and others need to touch, enact and ‘live’ what they are learning.
